Shopping For Corporate Gifts

By Jacob Walker

Holidays call for gift-giving, which also means we might again find ourselves stressing on what to give to our bosses and colleagues. We have to think about the presents to give to managers and executives, to co-workers, and to subordinates. Below are some tips to consider before you fill your online shopping carts or rush to the department stores.

The ultimate challenge that you will face when giving gifts to executives and managers is finding the appropriate gift for them. That is because they get the highest pay and they can afford almost anything. It shouldn't be too expensive otherwise it may be seen as a campaign for promotion.

When you scout for gifts for your boss or manager, think about elegance. You can ask his secretary about his interest and his taste. You may offer a good bottle of liquor, signature sports equipment or a box of his favorite cigar. A year of subscription to his favorite magazine or newspaper is another good treat. Just do yourself a favor and avoid gift certificates.

For fellow employees, you have the option to choose gift items in a way that distinguishes close friends from not-so-close friends, but make sure give the gifts out of sincere intentions. If your firm is small, be generous enough to give something to everybody. If it is not, limit the shopping to your department.

Do not deviate from items that are simply enjoyable. You can go for common office items such as pens, calculators or clocks but make sure that they look cool and unique. You can also offer practical items such as umbrellas, tumblers, and fans. Just be diligent not to leave anybody out and your gift giving endeavor will be successful.

Subordinates are very easy to please. However, it doesn't mean that you should be less thoughtful about their gift. Items such as mugs, a desktop calendar or a planner would be fine. A box of cookies or chocolates is also a good way to make them feel highly appreciated. Be sure to avoid gift items that have sexual connotations-you do not want to spend the holidays with a pending case of harassment.
